Report: Ligue 1 club plan to move for experienced Spurs star this summer

According to Foot Mercato, Nice want to sign Hugo Lloris with the Tottenham captain allegedly making a return to France a priority this summer.

The 35-year-old, who has made 392 appearances for Spurs since joining the club in 2012, is approaching the final six months of his current deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As such, the French international will be free to talk to foreign clubs about signing a pre-contract agreement ahead of a potential move at the end of the season.

Antonio Conte is said to be keen on keeping Lloris on board and part of his intended Spurs squad going forward, and recently claimed he expects the World Cup-winner to sign a new deal.

However, Foot Mercato claim Lloris would be interested in making a return to his native France with Nice – the club where his professional career began.

The report states the Ligue 1 side want to ‘repatriate’ the goalkeeper and see the long-time Spurs man as a potential replacement for current starter Walter Benitez, who could leave the club at the end of the season.

It adds that any negotiations between Nice and Lloris could intensify on Saturday when the winter transfer market officially opens.

Hopefully Spurs will be able to get an agreement of fresh terms for him, because he deserves it and is still playing well enough.

However, you can’t really begrudge him if he wants to make a return to France and to the club at which his career started.
