Report: Ligue 1 club set to land replacement for Spurs-linked midfielder

According to a report by Ouest-France, Angers are on the verge of landing a replacement for rumoured Spurs target Baptiste Santamaria.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of defensive midfielders over the past few weeks including the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Football Insider) and Gerson (Goal.com) while Santamaria has also said to have attracted the interest of the North Londoners (The Express).

The 25-year-old, who has been compared with Chelsea star N’Golo Kante for his work rate and ability to win the ball back, is reportedly available for around £13million this summer (Le10Sport).

Ouest-France now claim that Angers have agreed on a deal in principle to sign Le Havre midfielder Pape Gueye as a replacement for Santamaria.

It is suggested that the club could now be willing to cash in on the rumoured Spurs target once the deal for Gueye is finalised.

Spurs Web Opinion

Santamaria is a modern-day defensive pivot, who is not only excellent at winning the ball back but is also press resistant and capable of kick-starting attacks as a deep-lying playmaker

However, the Premier League is a completely different kettle of fish to the Ligue 1 and so he would be a more risky signing in comparison to an option like Hojbjerg.
