Report: Ligue 1 club set to make move for centre-back wanted by Spurs

According to a report from France Football, Monaco are interested in signing rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Jerome Boateng.

Centre-back is expected to be one of the priority positions for Tottenham to address this summer, with Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld both being linked with moves away from the club.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has claimed that the North London club would ideally like to sign two central defenders during the transfer window.

One of the options on Tottenham’s radar is Boateng, who will be available on a free transfer this summer when his contract at Bayern Munich runs out next month.

Sky Sports claimed last week that Spurs have enquired about the availability of the World Cup winner, who has been free to talk to foreign clubs since January.

However, France Football now report that Niko Kovac, who worked with Boateng at Bayern, will try his best to convince the 32-year-old to join him in Monaco.

The experienced central defender is reportedly demanding a three-year contract to sign on the dotted line.

I can see why signing a player of Boateng’s experience and quality on a free transfer would be a tempting proposition for Spurs under the current economic climate.

Seeing how valuable Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani have proved for Chelsea and Man Utd respectively, one could argue that a player of Boateng’s experience could be a big asset for the Spurs squad.

However, the German international fits the profile of a Mourinho recommendation rather than the type of options Spurs usually go for. I believe that the club are more likely to go after players like Milenkovic or Andersen whose values are expected to rise over the next few years.
