Report: Ligue 1 club set to win the race for Spurs-linked right-back

According to a report from Le10Sport, AS Monaco are now on the verge of signing Brazilian right-back Vanderson, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks.

Vanderson has come on leaps and bounced since breaking into Gremio’s starting eleven twelve months ago.

Brazilian publication Globo Esporte have claimed that Spurs requested information about the right-back in the summer but Gremio refused to enter into talks over the defender’s sale.

UOL reported earlier this month that the 20-year-old was on the radars of Spurs, Newcastle and Brentford ahead of January, with the Bees thought to be leading the race for the defender.

Gremio president Dennis Abraham even admitted last week that the club had received a proposal from Brentford for Vanderson.

However, if Le10Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Vanderson looks set to join Monaco next month instead. The report claims that the Ligue 1 side are ‘on the verge’ of securing the youngster’s services.

It is asserted that Vanderson is set to sign a four and a half year contract with Monaco, with the French club set to pay €12m (£10.1m) for the defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do expect Spurs to be in the market for a right-back in January. It does not appear as if Conte trusts Doherty, with the Italian starting Tanganga at right-wing-back over the Irishman when Emerson was not available for the Norwich clash.

Even though Emerson has impressed over the last couple of months, I believe the Brazilian needs some competition for his place in the side. He still looks to me like a more natural right-back in a back four than a wing-back.
