Report: Ligue 1 club want in excess of £42m for rumoured Spurs target

According to a report from L’Equipe, Lille will not sell rumoured Tottenham target Sven Botman this summer unless they receive a mouth-watering offer for the centre-back.

Tottenham have been locked in negotiations with Atalanta over a deal for Cristian Romero over the last couple of weeks but, are edging closer to a deal being confirmed after it was reported that a fee had been agreed (Football.London).

Spurs are thought to be keen on adding another centre-back to their squad this summer, with the likes of Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic and Bolonga’s Takehiro Tomiyasu being mooted as targets.

Previous reports had indicated that Botman was another central defensive option on the North Londoners’ wishlist.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an exceptional first season at Lille after his move from Heerenveen last summer, with the solid partnership that he formed with Jose Fonte at the back playing a pivotal role in Lille’s march to the Ligue 1 title.

It was suggested a few months ago that the French club valued the young centre-back at around €45m (£39m).

According to L’Equipe’s latest update, the Ligue 1 champions’ stance on Botman has now changed.

The report explains that Newcastle and West Ham United have joined Spurs in the race for the player.

However, it is asserted that Lille have decided to hang on to the centre-back for one more season and will not sell him unless they receive an offer exceeding €50m (£42.7m).

While Botman was linked with a move to Spurs a few months ago, the speculation has died down since Fabio Paratici’s appointment. It stands to reason that the Dutchman was not on the list of centre-back targets that the Italian drew up.
