Gelson Martins will not be moving to Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window closes this evening, according to Get French Football News.
Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas took to Twitter earlier today to claim that the Monaco midfielder was one of the names under consideration by Tottenham, having not sealed a move for Leeds United’s Dan James.
Martins was said to have been keen to make the move to north London, but will now remain with the Ligue 1 club.
The 27-year-old has spent the last three seasons at Monaco since joining from Atletico Madrid, where he has played 118 matches across all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing 14 assists (transfermarkt).
Tottenham’s transfer activity started with a frenzy early in the summer having moved quickly to bring in the likes of Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.
Some fans on social media have shown some frustration over the lack of activity in recent weeks with the club having not signed a creative player. However, if the club had signed the trio mentioned above today, would those fans have a different mindset? The reality is, Spurs are unbeaten so far this season and certainly have more squad depth than they have had for some time.
