Report: Lille open talks to sign 23-goal striker linked with Spurs

Lille have reportedly begun negotiations with Gent to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Jonathan David, according to a report in Le10Sport.

David has been a revelation since arriving in Belgium in January of 2018. His performances this season, in particular, have seen him establish a reputation as the most prolific marksman in the Belgian Pro League.

The Canadian international notched 23 goals and 10 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions (transfermarkt.com) before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic before eventually being cancelled.

Tottenham have reportedly sent scouts to Belgium on multiple occasions this season to watch the 20-year-old in action (Het Laatste Nieuws).

However, Le10Sport claim, that Lille have now made David their primary target as they look to replace Victor Osimhen who is said to be edging closer to a move to Napoli.

The suggests that the negotiations between the two clubs are heating up and that Lille are making progress in their efforts to land the striker.

It is asserted that Gent are willing to part ways with David for €25 million (£22.5million) but the Ligue 1 club are yet to meet their asking price.

While David has had an impressive couple of seasons at Gent, the jury is still out on whether he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League. I can see why a move to Ligue 1 will suit him as it will allow him to continue his development, while also putting him in the shop window.
