Report: Lille ready to sell rumoured Spurs target for €12m

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of Lille’s players over the past couple of months which is not all that surprising considering that both Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos joined Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff from the Ligue 1 side.

Goalkeeper Mike Maignan (La Voix du Nord), striker Victor Osimhen (All Nigeria Soccer), centre-half Gabriel Magalhaes (Foot Mercato) have all been linked with respective moves to North London in recent weeks.

Another Lille star who was touted as a target until a few months ago was the club’s right-back Zeki Celik.

Celik has been a revelation since arriving at the Stade Pierre Mauroy from İstanbulspora in 2018 and it looks like his performances have caught the North Londoners’ attention.

Spurs reportedly tried to sign the 23-year-old during the January window (Turkish publication DHA), with BuzzSport reporting in March that the Lilywhites will try again for the defender in the summer.

Le10Sport have now revealed that Lille have decided to cash in on the Turkish international and are willing to sell him for around €12million (£10.9m).

The report has installed Atalanta as the favourites for Celik’s signature, with the Serie A side said to be prepared to meet Lille’s asking price.

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems like Jose Mourinho is very much going to continue sticking with the hybrid back four/back three formation which requires the right-back to play almost as a winger when Spurs have the ball.

Celik would be an exceptionally good fit for the system we play. While he is not lighting quick or capable of beating a man, he does time his runs forward really well and has a very good delivery on him. So this deal would definitely make sense for us.
