Report: Liverpool and Arsenal join race for Tottenham attacking target

According to French outlet Media Foot, Liverpool and Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the race to sign Rennes striker Martin Terrier.

The 25-year-old has been making waves in Ligue 1 over the last 18 months, having scored 21 goals and provided seven assists in 46 games last season (Transfermarkt). Terrier has picked up where he left off this season and already has 11 goals in the first 20 games of the current campaign (Transfermarkt).

His incredible form has caught the eye of French legend Thierry Henry, who encouraged Didier Deschamps to call Terrier up for the World Cup, but he didn’t make the squad. Nevertheless, we could be seeing a lot more of the player in the future if the rumours are to be believed.

Media Foot reported yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United had both spoken to Terrier’s agent to gauge his interest in a move to England and what a deal might look like. Now, the outlet has thrown Liverpool and Arsenal into the mix too.

Despite Liverpool recently acquiring Dutch star Cody Gakpo (Sky Sports), it seems they are not done yet and are looking at Terrier to boost their attacking options.

With injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, it is believed Jurgen Klopp may be tentatively exploring the idea of bringing in backup players for his squad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are suggested as a possible destination for Terrier, who is believed to be valued at around €35m (£30.94m) by Rennes.

Wherever he ends up, the report describes Terrier as “one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 for two seasons,” and claims a move could give him “a whole new status,” which could even lead to a France call-up.

It’s not surprising that Liverpool and Arsenal are also reportedly keen on signing Martin Terrier, as all the top clubs in England should be at least taking a look at a player who has scored that many goals. I can’t see Liverpool going for him, but Arsenal may well see him as an ideal option to provide cover for Gabriel Jesus, so if Spurs are interested, they had better make a move quickly.
