90 min have revealed that Liverpool are now set to challenge the likes of Tottenham for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.
Bakayoko, who enjoyed a breakthrough season with PSV last term, has taken his game to a new level so far this season, with 17 goal contributions (four goals and 13 assists) across all competitions so far in 2023-24.
Over the last few weeks, multiple outlets (Football Insider and Sky Sports) have reported that Brentford and Spurs could battle it out for the 20-year-old’s signature in January.
Liverpool enter race with Spurs for Johan Bakayoko
90 min have now backed up what was said by the aforementioned sources, stating that Brentford retain their interest in the winger from last summer while Tottenham are also ‘keeping a close eye’ on the player.
Additionally, they add that Liverpool are also ‘admirers’ of Bakayoko, having been impressed by his performances in the Champions League this season.
The outlet adds that the Reds see the Belgian international as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah amidst fears that the Egyptian could move to the Saudi Pro League next summer.
The publication adds that interested clubs would have to stump up a fee of over £30m for PSV to sanction an exit for Bakayoko next month.
Spurs Web Opinion
The reported fee should not really be an issue for Premier League sides. The question is whether the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Brentford are convinced enough about the 20-year-old’s potential to make the move.
There might perhaps be some apprehension, given how attackers from the Eredivisie have fared in the Premier League over recent years but Bakayoko’s performance in the Champions League should perhaps give them hope that he is the real deal.
