Report: Liverpool beat Spurs to the signing of goalkeeper

Tottenham Hotspur were one of the sides interested in snapping up goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek, before he completed a move to Liverpool this week, according to reports from Poland,

While all the focus is understandably on the Premier League champions’ potential acquisition of Thiago Alcantara (tuttomercato), the Reds also managed to secure the services of 16-year-old shot-stopper Mrozek.

Agent Jakub Schlage from the SSM Football agency took to Twitter on Monday to confirm that the highly-rated FC Wroclaw goalkeeper had completed a move to Anfield.

It was revealed that the 16-year-old would link up with Liverpool’s academy set up and start training with their first-team.

Meanwhile, Wroclaw academy co-ordinator Milosz Gladoch has told Futbol.pl that several clubs around Europe including Tottenham were interested in landing the teenager.

The report claims that Spurs, along with the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Benfica were all keen on the shot-stopper.

However, Mrozek is said to have impressed during a trial he had with Jurgen Klopp’s side last year and now that he has turned 16, he has signed his first professional contract with the club that runs until 2024.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I do not expect us to sign a first-choice goalkeeper this summer, it is clear that we do need to be in the market for a goalkeeper, with Michel Vorm set to leave. We could ideally replace the Dutchman with a younger shot-stopper who can be nurtured into eventually being the club’s first-choice.
