Report: Liverpool interested in Spurs-linked summer defensive target

Liverpool are reportedly keen signing Roger Ibanez from AS Roma which comes after Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester both made summer approaches for the Brazilian, according to Roma Live.

Ibanez has been a mainstay at the heart of the Italian club’s defence this season (transfermarkt).

After being linked with a host of defenders including Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar (ESPN), the club instead decided to move for Joe Rodon from Championship outfit Swansea City.

Rodon arrived in North London after Jan Vertonghen was allowed to leave North London on a free transfer at the end of last season and subsequently made the switch to Portuguese giants Benfica.

The Welshman was handed his first start in the Premier League by Jose Mourinho for the recent trip to Chelsea and despite two errors, looked relatively comfortable at the step up in level.

Liverpool have suffered a defensive injury headache having seen both Virgin Van Dijk and Joe Gomes both forced on the sidelines.

Skriniar appeared to be Tottenham’s primary defensive target during the summer; in a similar way to how we were linked with a number of forwards before settling on a season long loan move for Carlos Vinicius.
