Report: Liverpool ready to make player plus cash offer for Spurs target

Liverpool are reportedly leading the race for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who is also said to be on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Koulibaly’s future over the past few weeks, with some reports suggesting that the central defender is Premier League-bound.

Gianluca Di Marzio told Sky Sports at the start of last month that the Senegal international was one of Tottenham’s main defensive targets this summer.

While the speculation linking Spurs to the Napoli star had died down in recent weeks, Il Mattino reported on Tuesday that the Lilywhites were still pressing for the defender ‘with great insistence’.

Newcastle have also been mentioned as potential suitors for the 28-year-old with the Magpies reportedly willing to offer him a £200,000-a-week contract (Le10Sport).

However, Napoli Magazine (as translated by TBR Football) have now explained that Liverpool are the front-runners for Koulibaly, with the centre-half said to be keen on joining the Reds.

It is revealed that Jurgen Klopp’s side are willing to offer £53.5million plus Divock Origi in exchange for the experienced defender.

Since Napoli are reportedly keen on signing Origi, this is said to give the Reds the upper hand in the race for Koulibaly.

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see us spending the kind of money it would take for us to land Koulibaly. However, if Origi is for sale, I would hope that we put in a bid for the Belgian international. While he might not be a prolific goalscorer, he is quite versatile and could be a terrific squad option for us to have.
