Report: Liverpool receive injury blow ahead of Tottenham clash

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that Liverpool are likely to be without Virgil van Dijk for the clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Most Tottenham fans will be dreading the upcoming trip to Merseyside, with the Lilywhites coming off three consecutive losses, including two in the local derbies against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have been poor away from home off late and the performance at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday had all the hallmarks of a side extremely short of confidence.

It does not get any easier for Tottenham, who head to Anfield next, a ground where they have a poor record historically and have not won since 2011.

While Spurs are mathematically still in the race for fourth place, one would think that a defeat on Sunday will all but end their chances of getting into the Champions League.

The fact that Chelsea were missing a number of players did not stop them from ripping us apart on Thursday. So irrespective of Van Dijk’s unavailability, Liverpool start as massive favourites and could hand us a drubbing if we play like we have been over recent weeks.
