Report: Liverpool set to beat Spurs to Derby starlet’s signature

According to a report in The Telegraph, Liverpool could be set to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the capture of highly-rated Derby County forward Kaide Gordon.

Gordon has impressed in Derby’s youth ranks and was rewarded with his senior debut for the club by manager Wayne Rooney when he came on as a late substitute in Derby’s 4-0 against Birmingham in December.

The Derby boss admitted that he has been impressed with what he has seen of the 16-year-old in training.

The Telegraph claim that Spurs are keen on snapping up the teenager, who has featured for England’s Under-16s.

The youngster is also reportedly on Manchester United’s radar but the report reveals that Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently the front-runners and could be set to win the race for his signature.

The versatile forward, who can play on either flank, is said to be close to a move to Anfield, having seen the likes of Neco Williams, Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips being given first-team opportunities under Klopp.

Although Derby would like to see Gordon stay at the club, it is suggested that delays in the Championship side’s proposed takeover from Derventio Holdings, could see Gordon move to a bigger club and net the Rams over £1million.

Kaide Gordon is not the only young forward linked with a move to Spurs this window, with Wigan’s Kyle Joseph also reported to be a target. It is surprising that the club are trying to bring in these players considering that we have some very good young strikers at the club in Dane Scarlett and Troy Parrott.
