Report: Liverpool set to bid for Luis Diaz; player wants move amid Spurs interest

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham, The Athletic have revealed that Liverpool are set to hijack the North London club’s move for Porto winger Luis Diaz.

Spurs have been in talks with Porto over the last few days over a deal for Diaz (Fabrizio Romano), who has 16 goals across all competitions for the Portuguese giants so far this season (Transfermakrt).

However, multiple sources are now reporting that Liverpool are now set to push ahead with a move for the Porto winger.

Sky Sports reported this morning that the Reds, who initially viewed the Colombian as a target for the summer, could now bring forward their pursuit of the winger amidst Tottenham’s interest.

The Athletic have now asserted that Jurgen Klopp’s men are expected to win the race for the 25-year-old.

It is suggested that the Colombian would prefer a move to Anfield over joining Spurs.

The report adds that the Reds are expected to agree on a fee of €60m (£50m) including add-ons with Porto for Diaz.

After Barcelona stepped in to seemingly hijack our move for Adama Traore (The Athletic), it would be a disaster if Spurs also miss out on Diaz to Liverpool. This is one of the major perils of leaving our business to so late in the transfer window as the club simply might not have enough time to pursue alternatives.
