Report: Liverpool set to challenge Spurs for upcoming free agent

Liverpool could be set to challenge Tottenham in their rumoured pursuit of Thomas Meunier after reports from France indicated that the Reds are keen on signing the Paris Saint-Germain defender.

Meunier’s contract with PSG runs out next month and reports suggested that Tottenham are in pole position to bring him to the Premier League when he becomes a free agent (Sport via Sport Witness) .

Jose Mourinho is said to have personally called the right-back to convince him to make the move to Spurs with the Belgian international reportedly flattered by the phone call (ESPN).

However, Le10Sport claim that Liverpool have also spoken to Meunier about joining the Premier League leaders.

It is said that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the defender and the Reds could be set to accelerate their move for the PSG star, who they want as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The report names Borussia Dortmund as another potential rival for Meunier’s signature.

One possible advantage we could have over Liverpool in the race for Meunier, if indeed their interest is true, is the fact that the Belgian is much more likely to play regularly at Spurs than the Reds. Unless Alexander-Arnold plays further forward, Meunier will play second fiddle to him at Anfield while he could fancy his chances of ousting Aurier since he did it in Paris as well.
