Report: Liverpool were considering ‘big bid’ for Heung-min Son if Spurs had missed out on top four

Liverpool were weighing up a big money approach for Tottenham Hotspur striker Heung-min Son this summer if the North Londoners had failed to secure a top four finish, according to Football.London.

On the final day of the season, Spurs pipped rivals Arsenal to secure a return to Champions League football for the first time since Mauricio Pochettino was in charge.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be a big admirer of the South Korean international and the Reds have been planning for the potential exit of Mo Salah or Saido Mane, who are both approaching the final year of their respective contracts at Anfield.

Son finished the season as the joint Premier League Golden Boot winner, having netted on 23 occasions along with Salah (BBC).

Son, who signed a new four-year deal with Spurs last July is said to have been enthused by the arrival of Antonio Conte, who has transformed the club’s fortunes.

The Football London report claims there was no guarantee that Spurs would have entertained any offer or whether Son would have had his head turned over the prospect of playing for the Champion League finalists.

However, with Spurs achieving a top four finish, it appears Liverpool won’t even waste their time testing the waters this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Son would slot seamlessly into the Liverpool front three, however, it is clear to see that he is happy at Tottenham having forged a brilliant partnership with Harry Kane, while his relationship with Conte is clear to see.
