Report: Lloris was ‘fuming’ after Cristian Romero incident in World Cup final

Hugo Lloris appeared to be angered after being on the receiving end of an elbow from Cristian Romero in the World Cup final, as picked up by talkSPORT and other outlets.

The incident happened in the 11th minute of the game when Lloris came out to collect a ball, with Romero being shoved into the goalkeeper’s direction by France centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

Replays showed that the Argentine defender had raised his elbow just before colliding with Lloris, thus catching his Tottenham teammate in the midriff.

The 35-year-old was in noticeable pain and took several minutes to get back onto his feet.

When he was back on his feet, Lloris was far from happy and was seen wagging his finger at the referee, suggesting Romero deserved further punishment after the free-kick was given.

It was Romero who had the last laugh on the night as Argentina emerged winners in a penalty shootout after the game finished 3-3 at the end of extra time.

Spurs Web Opinion

No one would have been surprised by Romero’s antics and it was telling that he did not even check up on Lloris after the incident. However, the two players were fighting for their countries and I do not think they will have any trouble putting the incident behind them when they meet up at Hotspur Way.
