Tottenham have been linked with a move for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso all summer but with now less than two days to go before the transfer deadline, the move is yet to materialize.
A report in Estadio Deportivo has now shed light on why Spurs haven’t been able to land the Argentine international.
The report asserts that Tottenham were never planning on paying the €75 million Betis are demanding for Lo Celso.
Instead, Spurs made an offer of €52 million-plus €8 million in add-ons and were hoping that the Lo Celso would force a move to North London.
However, it is claimed that the 23-year-old will not force a move through as he is unwilling to ruin his relationship with Betis, who gave his career a new lease of life after his struggles at PSG.
Despite this setback, recent reports indicate that Spurs have once again resumed negotiations with Betis for Lo Celso and that the La Liga club still expects Tottenham to accelerate their move in the final two days of the window (Onda Cero).

While Tottenham fans won’t be pleased at the club’s apparent willingness to pay the asking price for their targets, €75 million is a huge outlay and it makes sense why Spurs want to try and get the price down. With less than 48 hours left in the transfer market, hopefully, Betis will blink and accept the fee Spurs have offered for Lo Celso.
