Report: Lo Celso transfer saga may have just taken another twist

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso all summer but a move has failed to materialise so far.

It was thought that Betis’ acquisition of Nabil Fekir from Lyon would speed up the Lo Celso deal (The Sun) but Tottenham and Betis have not been able to agree on a transfer fee for the 23-year-old.

Now, with just a few days left in the transfer window, it looks like Tottenham have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of the Argentine international.

ABC Sevilla are now reporting that Betis have terminated negotiations with Tottenham after being left frustrated by the North London club’s antics.

The report claims that although Lo Celso agreed on personal terms with Spurs a while ago, the Lilywhites’ offers have fallen well short of Betis’ valuation. It is suggested that multiple clubs have expressed their interest in the midfielder.

The silky left-footer, who started training with Betis last Wednesday, was an unused substitute in their win over Raja Casablanca on Sunday.

If Daniel Levy fails to get this deal over the line, then it will be a huge disappointment as it looks like Lo Celso is the player Pochettino really wants. Tottenham need at least two top signings in the next few days in order to close the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool.
