Report: Loan update as Spurs man picks up assist in first start since October

Giovani Lo Celso impressed on his return to Villarreal’s starting eleven, helping his side pull off a sensational 3-2 win away at Real Madrid.

Lo Celso picked up a hamstring injury back in October, which not only kept him out of Argentina’s historic World Cup campaign but also saw him miss several games for Villarreal since La Liga’s restart.

The midfielder, who turned 27 on Sunday, returned to full fitness a couple of weeks ago and he was handed his first start in almost five months at the Santiago Bernabeu over the weekend.

The on-loan Tottenham man started as a false nine and put in an accomplished display, setting up Samu Chukwuese’s equaliser in the first half, with a nicely threaded pass.

Lo Celso played 67 minutes before being replaced by Jose Luis Morales, who got on the scoresheet just a few minutes after coming on as Villarreal picked up a famous 3-2 win at the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, in other news regarding Tottenham’s players out on loan, Football.London revealed that Bryan Gil played 78 minutes in Sevilla 2-2 at home to Celta Vigo while Destiny Udogie played all 90 minutes in the Udinese’s 2-2 draw with Monza at home on Saturday.

Tanguy Ndombele was used as an impact substitute once again by Luciano Spalletti, with the midfielder coming for the final 24 minutes of Napoli’s 2-1 victory at Lecce.

Djed Spence and Joe Rodon played no part in Rennes’ 1-0 defeat to Lens on Saturday while Sergio Reguilon was an unused substitute for Atletico Madrid, who beat Rayo Vallecano 2-1.

Harry Winks made his 11th consecutive 90-minute appearance for Sampdoria, who fell to yet another loss at home, this time being beaten 3-2 by Cremonese.

This performance would certainly boost Lo Celso’s confidence and Spurs will be hoping that the midfielder has a strong finish to the season.

Even if the Argentine is not in the next Spurs manager’s plans, one would expect several La Liga clubs, including potentially Villarreal themselves, to show interest in him in the summer.
