Report: London rivals want to sign former Tottenham winger Marcus Edwards

The Sun have revealed that West Ham United are considering a move for former Tottenham winger Marcus Edwards, with any such move set to boost the Lilywhites’ coffers, owing to their sell-on clause for the winger.

Edwards, who came through the ranks of Tottenham’s academy, left the club back in 2019 to join Vitoria Guimaraes in search of regular first-team football.

Since then, the winger has built a reputation as one of the best attackers in Portuguese football, with his stock rising considerably since his switch to Sporting Lisbon two years ago.

While Spurs initially had a 50 per cent sell-on clause for the 24-year-old, they gave up 15 per cent as part of the deal to bring Pedro Porro from the Jose Alvalade Stadium to N17 a year ago (Sky Sports).

The 25-year-old has regularly been linked with a return to his boyhood club over the last couple of years, with Correio da Manha suggesting just a couple of months ago that Ange Postecoglou’s men are monitoring him closely.

West Ham eyeing former Spurs man Marcus Edwards

The Sun have now alleged that the Hammers are considering bringing the pacy winger back to London during the current transfer window.

The report says that David Moyes is keen to reinforce his forward line after the recent injuries to his attackers and he has set his sights on Edwards.

While the report does not say how much West Ham would have to pay to land the former Tottenham man, the North London club would be owed 35 per cent of any fee that Moyes’ men spend on the Sporting star.

Spurs Web Opinion

West Ham’s shopping list seems to consist entirely of former Tottenham wingers, with Jack Clarke, Steven Bergwijn and now, Edwards mooted as targets.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs are tempted to swoop for the 25-year-old, given that they can sign him for a considerable discount, owing to the clause.
