Report: Long-serving Spurs star linked with Barcelona move

Tottenham Hotspur are currently set to lose one of their longest serving players this summer.

Jan Vertonghen, who moved to North London from Ajax in July 2012 for an undisclosed fee is out of contract with the Champions League finalists at the end of the current campaign (BBC).

The Belgium centre-back has been a mainstay in the Spurs backline since moving from Amsterdam.

He has made 311 appearances, scoring 14 goals, but has struggled to hold down a role in the starting eleven since Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs head coach last November (transfermarkt).

Italian outfit Inter Milan have already been linked with a move for the 32-year-old should he fail to agree to a new deal with Spurs (Standard).

Barcelona are also reported to be considering making a move for Vertonghen in the summer, according to Spanish news outlet Sport.

Vertonghen’s agent Mustapha Nakhli was quizzed in 2014 about rumoured interest from the Catalan giants but stopped short of confirming the rumours (Independent).
