Report: Luis Campos rejects approach from Premier League club

There has been considerable speculation surrounding the future of Luis Campos this week after reports emerged that the Lille Sporting Director had asked to leave the club (RMC SPORT).

While Portuguese publication RTP suggested that Campos was on his way to Tottenham, Record (as relayed by Sport Witness) suggested that the 55-year-old wants to stay at Lille despite his disagreement with the club’s recent strategic decisions.

L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN) have now claimed that the Portuguese director has rejected an offer from Newcastle United.

The report claimed that the Premier League club’s prospective new owners made a lucrative offer to the Lille man to become the Magpies’ new Sporting Director. However, Campos is said to have politely.

L’Equipe also reveals that Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco remain interested in Campos’ services but they too assert that the former Real Madrid man wants to stay at Lille despite his frustration with the club’s recent decisions.

Multiple reports seem to indicate that Campos’ intention is to continue with Lille. So, it seems as if his decision to ask for his contract to be terminated may have been a move to force the Ligue 1 club to cater to his demands in terms of how the club is run.
