Report: Luton Town are eyeing a January move for 24-year-old Spurs player

The Daily Mail have revealed that Luton Town are considering a move for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga.

There was plenty of optimism about Tanganga when he first broke into the Tottenham first team nearly four years ago but since then, the centre-back has not been able to do justice to his potential.

His injury problems have set him back and he has also struggled to get a consistent run in the side under consecutive managers at Spurs.

When Tanganga completed a loan move to Augsburg last summer, many would have seen the switch as an ideal platform for the player to get some game time under his belt and get his career back on track.

However, the switch has been a disaster for the Tottenham man, who has not made a single appearance for the Bundesliga side so far, and several outlets have indicated over the last month that the centre-back is expected to be recalled to Hotspur Way this month (Kicker).

Luton Town showing interest in Japhet Tanganga

The Mail have now suggested that Tanganga could be on his way out of Tottenham again in January, with the defender now attracting interest from the Premier League.

The report says that Luton have internally had discussions over a move for the Spurs academy graduate, but it is not mentioned whether the club are exploring a loan move or a permanent transfer.

The publication adds that the Hatters are also looking at other centre-back alternatives as they look to aim to strengthen their backline in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think it would be the worst idea for Tanganga to potentially consider doing what Harry Winks did and dropping down to the Championship. The 24-year-old desperately needs regular football under his belt over the next six to 12 months and he might not get that in the Premier League
