Report: Lyon are already in talks with Tottenham over 2022/23 Ndombele deal

Lyon are attempting to extend the loan of Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele into the 2022/23 campaign, according to Jeunes Footeux.

Ndombele returned to his former club on a short-term deal in the January transfer window having failed to break into Antonio Conte’s immediate plans at Spurs.

The 25-year-old has started to rekindle the form he previously showed at Lyon before Spurs shelled out £55 million for him in 2019 (The Guardian), which could now tempt the French outfit into pursuing a second loan deal.

Jeunes Footeux report Les Gones recognise Tottenham’s £54.5 million (€65m) option-to-buy clause will be out of their reach, which could force them into negotiating an extension into the next campaign.

It adds that Lyon’s outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League is expected to influence the structure of a move, with a second loan currently looking like the best option.

The club has struggled for consistency this term and is currently sitting 10th in the Ligue 1 table, nine points off the qualification places.

Lyon clearly don’t have the finances available for this move and we saw that over the January transfer window.  A loan is the best option for them, but not for Spurs considering they are going to want to make back as much as possible from the transfer.
