Report: Lyon director confirms Spurs transfer blow as Man United have first refusal on target

Tottenham Hotspur may be looking to bring in reinforcements in the January transfer window this season, as they look to recover from a poor start to the Premier League season.

The Lilywhites have only three wins to their name, despite playing 12 games so far in the league. Spurs are on 14 points and down in 14th place, closer to relegation than they are to those precious Champions League spots.

If Tottenham are not careful, their run of four consecutive years in Europe’s biggest competition may come to an end.

This week, Spurs have been linked with a £50m move for Lyon forward and ex-Man United star, Memphis Depay (Mirror).

While rumoured before, it has now been confirmed by the Lyon director of football, Juninho, that Manchester United have first refusal on the player with a buy-back clause (Sun).

This could scupper Tottenham’s chances of signing the striker, but only if Man United want to bring him back to Old Trafford.

Juninho went on to say that Depay is happy at Lyon and wants to extend his contract past 2021.
