Report: Madrid want €90 million for star linked with both Spurs and Liverpool

Sky Sports have recently reported that Spurs are now in talks with both Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele.

All of the speculation surrounding the pair would suggest that these are Tottenham’s chief midfield targets for this summer.

One alternative midfield target for Spurs is Real Madrid’s maestro, Marcus Asensio. Asensio was linked to Tottenham in May, when AS reported that Spurs had made contact with Real Madrid. However, the interest came to a sudden halt when Spurs were rebuffed by an outrageous €700 million asking price.

Madrid’s stance at this stage was clear. Asensio was not for sale.

However, AS have now reported that Asensio could be allowed to leave the club for as little as €90 million. This is a surprise turn of events and gives Tottenham an opportunity to reignite their interest in a world class talent.

With links to both Ndombele and Lo Celso, highlighting Spurs’ strong interest in the pair, it is unclear whether or not they will pursue Asensio with this recent news in mind.

They would face competition if they did, though, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Liverpool are very keen on the Spaniard.

Spurs Web Opinion

At 23 Asensio represents an excellent investment. His flair and precision would make him an indispensable asset at Spurs. He certainly would be a perfect replacement should Christian Eriksen leave the club summer.

With our transfer record and the fact that we are clearly intent on pursuing Ndombele and Lo Celso, it seems unlikely that we would make a drastic U-turn regarding our targets. Liverpool’s transfer policy seems more suited to this deal, though. With them spending close to £150 million on Alisson and Van Dijk combined in the past 18 months, and after their Champions League final victory it would be no surprise to see the Reds meet Madrid’s €90 – €100 million valuation for Asensio this summer (The Boot Room).
