Report: Major repercussion likely if Spurs beat Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to take on Chelsea in what will be a crucial game for both sides. While Tottenham will look to get back on track after their defeat to Burnley on Saturday, their London rivals Chelsea are going through challenging times.

According to a report in the Telegraph, Maurizio Sarri’s future with the Blues is hanging by a thread, and the Italian will likely get the sack if Spurs consign Chelsea to a home loss on Wednesday.

In addition to Chelsea’s recent form, Sarri is now under even more pressure after the unsavory incident in the Carabao Cup final where Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to come off even though Sarri wanted to substitute him.

The Italian appeared absolutely furious when the incident occurred as Kepa’s actions were seen as further evidence of Sarri’s lack of authority in the Chelsea dressing room.

After the game, both the Chelsea keeper as well as the Italian have put the incident down to a misunderstanding but the club have fined Kepa a week’s wages.

According to many reports, it was Chelsea’s win over Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semifinal on penalty shoot-out that bought Sarri a little bit more time in the job.

So it will certainly be ironic if Tottenham put the final nail in the Italian’s coffin just days after the Blues lost the cup final to Man City on penalties.
