Report: Man allegedly once wanted by Levy being considered for Newcastle role

Luis Campos, who Tottenham reportedly wanted to bring as their director of football last season, is now one of the favourites to take up the role at Newcastle United, Sky Sports have revealed.

Campos was instrumental in turning both Monaco and Lille into title winners in France, having unearthed gems such as Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho, Thomas Lemar, Bernardo Silva and Anthony Martial.

Reports indicated last season that Campos could reunite with Jose Mourinho at Spurs, having previously worked with him at Real Madrid.

However, that did not materialise and the North London club decided to go in a different route after Mourinho’s sacking, with Fabio Paratici brought in as the managing director of football during the summer.

Sky Sports now report that Newcastle are eyeing Campos following the club’s £305m Saudi-led takeover.

It is explained that despite the vast riches of the Magpies’ new ownership, they have made it abundantly clear they want to run their new business in a sustainable way.

Campos is thus said to fit the bill of what Newcastle are looking for and it is suggested that the 56-year-old could find the project in the North East attractive.

Spurs Web Opinion

A lot of Spurs fans might have strong opinions on whether we should have gone for Campos over Paratici but in reality, none of us is privy to how either of them work behind the scenes. I am happy to give Paratici time to see what he can build at Tottenham.
