Report: Man City and Chelsea could battle Spurs for 27-year-old defender

The Sun have claimed that Manchester City and Chelsea could battle Tottenham for Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar in January.

Skriniar’s future remains up in the air, with the Slovak’s contract at the San Siro running out next summer (Transfermarkt).

FCInterNews reported a few days ago that the centre-back’s representatives are set to meet with the Inter hierarchy before the end of October to discuss a new deal.

However, the report explained that Inter’s financial troubles could jeopardise these negotiations and that the player might be tempted to move to the Premier League in January, naming Spurs as a potential suitor.

The Sun have now backed up the claim regarding Tottenham’s interest in Skriniar but they state that Antonio Conte’s men are not the only Premier League club who have their eye on the centre-back.

It is explained that the Inter star remains on Chelsea’s radar even though the Blues signed Wesley Fofana in the final stages of the summer transfer window.

It is also asserted that Pep Guardiola is also keen on bolstering his options at centre-back and that City could turn their attentions towards Skriniar in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Skriniar does not agree on a new deal with Inter before the World Cup, one would assume that the Nerazzurri would have no choice but the sell the centre-back in January as they will not want to risk losing him on a free next summer.

I am not convinced that Spurs will make a move for the 27-year-old as Conte initially did not appear too convinced by him during his time at Inter, although Skriniar did eventually win the Italian over.
