Report: Man City make contact with rumoured Tottenham target’s representatives

Tottenham Hotspur could face increased competition in their rumoured interest in Youri Tielemans after it was reported that he is now wanted by Manchester City.

The Monaco midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City and caught the eye during his displays for the Foxes.

Tielemans featured thirteen times in the Premier League, scoring on three occasions and providing four assists which have seen Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers keen to wrap up a permanent transfer (Leicester Mercury).

Spurs are said to be keen on bringing the 22-year-old Belgian international to North London along with Manchester United (Daily Mail). However, United’s near neighbours City have now made contact with the player’s representatives over a potential £40million transfer (The Sun).

City boss Pep Guardiola was said to have been impressed with Tielemans’ display when his side beat Leicester at the start of May and even approached the player on the pitch following the match.

Tielemans has three years left to run on his contract at Monaco and the Ligue 1 side are now in the prime position to cash in after the player proved he could cut it in the English top flight.

Opinion

The increasing interest in Tielemans among Premier League sides is likely to come down to a bidding war, or who can offer the highest wages – two things which Spurs have historically not been at the forefront of.
