Report: Man City want Pochettino to succeed Guardiola

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Manchester City have identified former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as the man to replace Pep Guardiola at the helm if the Spaniard leaves at the end of the current season.

While the former Barcelona manager is contracted to City until 2021, the report claims that there is a clause in his contract that would allow Guardiola to leave next summer without breaking his contract as long as certain stipulations are met.

WhileCity chiefs are said to be confident that the two-time Premier League champion will stay and honour his contract, should he leave at the end of the season, Pochettino is said to be their top target as his replacement.

City’s footballing decisions are led by the Spanish duo of chief executive Ferran Soriano and football director Txiki Begiristain, both of whom are said to be admirers of the former Spurs manager.

Pochettino was dismissed as manager of the Champions League finalists last month following a disappointing start to the new season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I wouldn’t begrudge a move to City for Pochettino as he deserves to win lots of trophies in his next job in football. However, I am not sure the Argentine will wait around for the Manchester City job to become available. I still believe that it is the Manchester United job that Pochettino really wants and a couple of results could put Solskjaer back under pressure once again.
