Report: Man United and Tottenham have both scouted Italy international

According to Il Resto del Carlino, Tottenham Hotspur are one of three Premier League clubs to hold an interest in Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi ahead of the January transfer window.

Frattesi hit the limelight on the back of his breakthrough season at Sassuolo in 2021-22 and the midfielder has carried on from where he left off this campaign, having found the back of the net four times in 15 Serie A appearances (Transfermarkt).

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Spurs during the summer transfer window (Gazzetta) and Sassuolo News reported last month that the North London club are continuing to keep a close eye on the player.

Il Resto del Carlino have now backed up that claim and revealed that it is not just Antonio Conte’s men who have scouted Frattesi this season but also Premier League rivals Manchester United and Brighton.

The report states that in addition to the three English clubs, Roma are also monitoring the Saussolo star’s situation ahead of the January transfer window.

It is explained that Giallorossi would be able to sign Frattesi on a discount as they have a sell-on clause, which means that they are owed a percentage of any fee Saussolo receive for the midfielder.

It does not surprise me that Fabio Paratici and his network of scouts are keeping a close eye on Frattesi. The 23-year-old could be a useful option if Conte decides to use a 3-5-2 and he can also play as a part of a two-man midfield in a 3-4-3.

However, a central midfielder is unlikely to be a priority for Conte in January, which is why I would be surprised if we push ahead with a move for the Sassuolo star.
