Report: Man United are ‘desperate’ to beat Tottenham to 24-year-old

TEAMtalk have revealed that Manchester United’s new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ‘desperate’ to beat the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal to the signing of Lille’s Jonathan David.

David has been one of the most prolific strikers in Ligue 1 even since joining Lille from Gent back in 2020 and the centre-forward is enjoying another fabulous season at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, having found the back of the net 22 times across all competitions so far.

Last week, HITC revealed that Tottenham were set to compete with several top Premier League sides for the Canadian international’s signature, with Man Utd, Arsenal and West Ham also named as the player’s admirers.

Man United are desperate to sign Jonathan David

TEAMtalk now say that United’s scouts have been very impressed with David’s eclectic displays this season and have identified him as their top target.

The report claims that Ratcliffe and his INEOS team feel that the striker is of ‘the perfect age profile’ since he is an experienced 24-year-old with a lot of room to grow.

The Man Utd owners are thus said to be keen to steal a march on the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to land David.

David would be a much less risky investment than someone like Santiago Gimenez as not only is Ligue 1 of superior standard to the Eredivisie but the Canadian has also been delivering consistently for a much longer time period.
