Report: Man United look to swoop for Ajax star previously linked to Tottenham

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Manchester United have renewed their interest in long-term Spurs target Donny van de Beek and could swoop for the Ajax star in the summer.

Tottenham were not only linked with the midfielder last summer (AS) but he was also said to be one of the options the North Londoners were looking at as a possible replacement for Christian Eriksen in January (Football.London).

Van de Beek’s agent, Guido Albers, has previously claimed that there is plenty of interest in the Ajax star’s services ahead of the summer (Voetbal International via Goal).

The Daily Mail reports that Real Madrid were hoping to tie up a £49million deal for the 23-year-old but they are now unsure as to whether they can afford the Dutchman this summer due to the financial hit they have taken as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is said that Manchester United are looking to take advantage of Madrid’s cash woes and hijack the deal for the Dutch international. The report asserts that the Red Devils believe they can land Van de Beek for around £36m this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I doubt that we will be in for Van de Beek this summer given the financial problems we are currently going through. It would be a shame if the midfielder goes to Manchester United as I believe he has both the physical and technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League. Losing both Bruno Fernandes and Van de Beek to United would be heartbreaking.
