Report: Man United make two-pronged decision on Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham Hotspur will be glad to hear that Man United have dropped their interest in signing Toby Alderweireld this summer, despite the Belgian being available on the cheap.

Spurs chose to activate Alderweireld’s one-year extension earlier this year, but this triggered a £25m summer release clause (Guardian).

With his talent and pedigree, it was expected that many clubs would be lining up to sign the centre back this summer, but there have been no reports of any bids as of yet.

Man United were heavily linked with a move for the central defender (Express), but have since turned their attentions elsewhere, namely Harry Maguire (BBC).

The Express report that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has chosen to drop his interest in Toby for two key reasons.

It is said that the United manager wants to prioritise youth and homegrown players this summer, with the 30-year-old Belgian Alderweireld not falling into either category.

Spurs Web Opinions:

It baffles me that no one has come in for Toby this summer. I think he has three or four good years left in him, and at £25m that is a steal. Oh well, all the better for Tottenham!
