Report: Man United now favourites to land EFL starlet wanted by Spurs

The Sun have revealed that Manchester United are leading the race to sign Derby County start Malcolm Ebiowei, who is also wanted by Tottenham.

Ebiowei was handed his senior debut for Derby by Wayne Rooney this season and the youngster went on to make 16 appearances in the Championship, in addition to the seven goals he scored in seven appearances for the club’s Under-18s (Transfermarkt).

The Sun were the first to report last month that Tottenham were eyeing a move for the teenager, who is expected to leave Pride Park when his contract runs out this summer.

The report explained that, despite the forward’s contract running out next month, interested clubs would still have to pay a fee for the teenager, with Arsenal, Rangers (whose youth teams he played for previously) and Derby in line for compensation.

The Sun have now revealed that Spurs could face competition from Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United for the Ebiowei.

However, it is asserted that the Red Devils are in pole position to snap up the 18-year-old forward due to Wayne Rooney’s links with Old Trafford.

Given that Ebiowei has not even had one full season of senior football under his belt, I suspect Spurs will loan him back to Derby or another EFL club if they win the race for the forward, just as they did with Pape Matar Sarr last summer.
