Report: Man United plot £45m offer as they hope to beat Spurs to PL star

The Daily Star have revealed that Manchester United are now preparing a £45m offer for Everton star Jordan Pickford, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

It seems fairly clear now that David Raya is Spurs’ top target to take over the gloves from Hugo Lloris, with multiple reports over the last week suggesting that the Lilywhites have agreed personal terms with the Spaniard (The Times).

Pickford is another name who was previously mooted as a target for Tottenham, with Football Transfers reporting two weeks ago that the Lilywhites had explored a deal for the Everton number one.

Man United are readying a bid for Jordan Pickford

However, if The Daily Star’s latest update is to be believed, United are set to make a significant step towards beating Tottenham to Pickford’s signature.

The outlet claims that Erik Ten Hag has identified the Toffes star as the ‘best option’ to replace David De Gea, due to his shot-stopping prowess and distribution skills.

With Everton said to be looking to raise some cash to balance their books, the publication suggests that the Red Devils are hopeful that an opening £45m offer will be enough to snap up the 29-year-old goalkeeper.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Man Utd are prioritising a move for Pickford, that is great news for Tottenham as it means that the route is clear for the North London club to snap up David Raya.

It also means that Brentford would have no choice but to lower their £40m valuation as a bidding war is unlikely to be forthcoming for the Spaniard.
