Report: Man United set to battle Tottenham for experienced free agent this summer

Manchester United are set to challenge Tottenham in their quest to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender, Thomas Meunier, according to the Sun.

The speculation linking Munier with a move to Spurs has intensified over recent days.

90 min first reported last week that Spurs could move for the Belgian international whose contract with PSG is set to run out in the summer.

L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN) revealed this week that PSG have no intention of handing the experienced right-back a new contract and installed Tottenham as the favourites to land him this summer.

However, the Sun now reports that Manchester United are also keen on bringing the 28-year-old to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be impressed by Munier’s versatility and attacking potential, while the defender himself is said to have been a childhood United fan, which could give the Red Devils an upper hand in the race.

Meunier will likely be aware that he has a better chance of ousting Serge Aurier at Spurs than he does of starting ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. If it is true that Mourinho wants him, hopefully fellow Belgian internationals Toby and Jan can also do their bit to convince him to pick Tottenham. However, I personally would not mind if Meunier joined Man United as I feel Max Aarons would be the better option for us long-term.
