Report: Man Utd and Chelsea monitoring centre-back linked with Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United and Chelsea are both monitoring Villarreal defender Pau Torres, who is also reported to be on Tottenham’s radar.

According to The Daily Mail, Torres has emerged as Tottenham’s first-choice target for the left centre-back role, ahead of the likes of RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, Lille’s Sven Botman and Atletico Madrid’s Mario Hermoso.

The report claimed that Spurs would have to pay a fee close to the Spanish international’s release clause, which stands at £55m.

Some reports have also suggested that the North London club could use Giovani Lo Celso, who is on loan at Villarreal, as a makeweight in the deal to land the defender (Football Insider).

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Torres is also one of the options being discussed by Manchester United.

He added that the Red Devils have not made a proposal yet and that the decision could come down to new boss Erik Ten Hag.

Romano revealed that Torres is also being monitored by Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window who has a hefty transfer release clause.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be surprised if United went for Torres as the 25-year-old would be a fit for Ten Hag’s style of playing out from the back. The one advantage that Spurs could have over other suitors in the negotiations is the fact that Villarreal would be keen on snapping up Lo Celso, given how well the Argentine has done at El Madrigal.
