Report: Man Utd and Real Madrid enter race for Spurs-linked centre-back

The Daily Mirror have revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Kim Min-jae is of interest to both Manchester United and Real Madrid ahead of the January transfer window.

Kim has hardly put a foot wrong since his switch to Napoli in the summer, with the centre-back’s solid displays being a huge contributing factor to the Serie A league leaders’ impressive defensive record.

The 26-year-old also held his own at the World Cup as South Korea were eliminated at the round of 16 stage by Brazil.

Reports in the Italian press over recent weeks have indicated that Spurs are among many European clubs who are plotting moves for the former Fenerbahce man on the back of his impressive showing in Naples during the first part of the campaign (CalcioMercatoWeb).

Journalist Raffaele Auriemma told Radio CRC (22/11/22 via TuttoNapoli) last month that Antonio Conte’s men are ready to pay the €50m (£43.4m) release clause in the defender’s contract at Napoli.

The Mirror have now revealed that it is not just Tottenham who are willing to meet Kim’s release clause but Manchester United as well.

The report adds that Real Madrid have also joined the centre-backs list of suitors but it asserted that the Red Devils ‘won’t be walking away’ from their pursuit of the South Korean as they are aware of his keenness to move to the Premier League.

The Mirror assert that Luciano Spalletti’s men are desperate to keep hold of Kim and are already preparing an improved contract for the player.

Kim’s keenness to move to the Premier League might be why his representatives pressed for a release clause to be added to his contract. The Napoli star might want to see the various options that open up before signing another new deal at Naples. Perhaps, Spurs can use Son to persuade the 26-year-old to join the club over the likes of Man Utd.
