Report: Man Utd and Spurs set to battle it out for 21-year-old defender

TEAMtalk have claimed that Manchester United are ready to challenge Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

Branthwaite was exceptional on loan at PSV Eindhoven last season and has hit the ground running on his return to his parent club, having established himself as a mainstay in the Everton backline this season.

The Daily Mail revealed a couple of days ago that the 21-year-old’s performances at Goodison Park had caught the attention of Spurs, who are plotting a January move for the youngster.

Man Utd enter the race for Jarrad Branthwaite

TEAMtalk have now alleged that Branthwaite has also emerged as an option on Man Utd’s wishlist, with the Manchester club said to be making plans to add defensive reinforcements to their squad.

The outlet claims that both Spurs and the Red Devils like the Everton youngster due to his impressive positioning, versatility and good decision-making on the ball.

However, it is explained that Erik Ten Hag’s men are expected to put off a move for the centre-back until next summer, with the January incomings at Old Trafford likely to be ‘restricted to cheap or good-value deals’.

Spurs Web Opinion

It will be difficult to get Branthwaite out of Everton mid-season, given how well he is playing. Sean Dyche will view the 21-year-old as being vital to his side’s chances of preserving their Premier League status. We could potentially see a bidding war for the Toffees academy graduate next summer.
