Report: Man Utd could swoop for rumoured Spurs target in January

According to Portuguese publication O Jogo (as translated by the Express) Manchester United have resurrected their interest in Tottenham target Bruno Fernandes.

Spurs had a bid for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder rejected in the summer (Sporting CP’s official website) and reports have suggested that they could return again for him in January (A Bola).

However, the report from O Jogo claims that Man Utd have identified Fernandes as one of their targets to help strengthen their midfield and could launch a bid for him in January.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Sporting are willing to allow the 24-year-old to leave in the upcoming transfer window for a fee of around €65 million as they are in desperate need of raising funds.

The Portugese international has been in fine form this campaign registering nine goals and six assists in all competitions so far (transfermarkt.com).

Fernandes has admitted that he is keen on moving to a bigger club in January but insisted that he will not force a move away from Sporting (Evening Standard).

Spurs Web Opinion

In my opinion, Fernandes would be the perfect replacement for Christian Eriksen, who looks nailed on to leave in the January transfer window. He is one of the few players within our price range who is capable of replacing Eriksen’s goal and assist output on a consistent basis.
