Report: Man Utd enter race for defender heavily linked with Spurs switch

Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Inter Milan over a potential move for Alessandro Bastoni, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The report claims that while talks have commenced, a formal offer has not been tabled by Tottenham as of yet.

Spurs are now said to be facing competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United who are embarking on a rebuild under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth also reported yesterday via Twitter that Spurs are in talks with the Serie A giants and are keen to get the majority of their transfer business done and dusted before pre-season begins.

Tottenham are set to rack up the air miles during pre-season with a two-game tour of South Korea, along with a match against AS Roma in Israel before rounding off with a trip to Glasgow to take on Rangers.

Antonio Conte knows all too well what Bastoni can bring to the left side of the centre of his defence having worked with him at the San Siro during their title-winning campaign.

United will have money to burn this summer in order to back Ten Hag, Spurs will certainly have to move quickly to tie up a deal to avoid becoming involved in a potential bidding war.
