Report: Man Utd eye January move for Spurs-linked defender

According to The Daily Express, Manchester United are eyeing a move for Norwich City defender Max Aarons, who is also reportedly on Tottenham’s radar.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Aarons in the summer transfer window but the club ended up moving for Matt Doherty from Wolves instead.

Although fans are yet to see the best of Doherty in a Tottenham shirt, the Republic of Ireland international’s arrival seems to have galvanised Serge Aurier, who had been quite impressive until the game against Leicester two weeks ago.

Aarons remained at Carrow Road despite Norwich’s relegation from the Premier League last season and the right-back has continued his fine form in the Championship.

The Express claim that Aarons was a top target for Tottenham in the summer but the North Londoners were not ready to meet Norwich’s asking price.

The report suggests that Tottenham might be tempted to make another move for the 20-year-old since neither Aurier nor Doherty have made the right-back spot their own.

However, Manchester United have been established as the favourites for Aaron’s signature, with the report claiming that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer wants the England Under-21 international to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Spurs Web Opinion

Reports indicate that we do not have a lot of money to spend in January unless we can move on the likes of Dele Alli for big money. So I do not believe a right-back is likely to be high on the list of our priorities.

Besides, Doherty has not had enough of a consistent run in the side to show his qualities. I still believe that he was a very good signing and he could go on to be a top player for us over the next few years.
