Report: Man Utd have a back-up plan in case Spurs will not sell Harry Kane

Manchester United may look to strike a deal for Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos in the summer, should they fail to land Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.

It’s been a brilliant season for Kane on an individual level. Despite Spurs struggling and failing to win a trophy once again, the 29-year-old has hit 24 goals in all competitions this term (Transfermarkt).

Kane recently became Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer, but his future at the club is currently in doubt.

With just over a year left on his current deal, there has been little progress made over negotiations for a new contract (Telegraph).

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the England captain in the summer (Telegraph). Reports suggest the Red Devils would have to pay at least £100 million to secure Kane’s signature (The Times).

However, United could be searching for alternatives that won’t break the bank quite as much, and it sounds like they may have found their man.

According to sources at Football Insider, Manchester United will move for Benfica star Ramos if the pursuit of Kane proves to be a fruitless one.

It is thought the 21-year-old has been earmarked as a “contingency plan” in case negotiations for Kane do not go to plan.

The report suggests Ramos’ £105 million release clause could be bypassed, with an offer of around £70 million potentially being enough for the Portuguese side to part ways with their player.

Ramos’ “stock has risen” over the last 12 months, after a star turn at the 2022 World Cup, and a return of 25 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for Benfica (Transfermarkt).

I remember seeing Ramos score that hat trick at the World Cup and just knowing that Benfica would not be able to keep hold of him for long.

He’s almost certainly set for a big move in the immediate future, and hopefully United will see him as a better option than Kane.
