Report: Man Utd have made Spurs-linked centre-back their top target

Football Insider have claimed that Manchester United are now ready to launch a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks.

Guehi has emerged as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League since swapping Chelsea for Crystal Palace back in 2021 and the 23-year-old is now a regular in England’s starting eleven.

It appears only a matter of time before the centre-back makes the switch to a bigger club, with various sources suggesting over the last month that he is one of the options at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist (GiveMeSport).

Tottenham’s interest in the Palace star was recently backed up by The Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor, who told the Spurs Chat Podcast two weeks ago that the Lilywhites have been watching the player for a long time.

Man Utd enter race for Spurs target Marc Guehi

However, if Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are now expected to face serious competition from Man Utd for Guehi.

The outlet states that the Red Devils are planning to strengthen their backline in January and that the Palace star is ‘firmly on their radar’.

In fact, it is asserted that Guehi has now emerged as Erik Ten Hag’s ‘number one target’ ahead of the transfer window but it is explained that the Eagles have not given up hope of tying the defender down to a new contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think there is any chance that Tottenham would spend £50m-£60m or more on a centre-back as it is clear that Romero and Van de Ven will continue to be Postecoglou’s first-choice pairing.

So, Spurs will likely look for someone in the £20m-£40m price range to serve as an understudy. Lloyd Kelly is the player who fits the bill the best among the various centre-halves we have been linked with recently.
