Report: Man Utd interested in South American starlet Spurs are leading race for

According to a report from TyC Sports, Manchester United have entered the race for River Plate starlet Enzo Fernandez, who is allegedly on Tottenham’s radar.

Fernandez has won many admirers since breaking into River Plate’s starting eleven, having scored six times and registered six assists for the Argentinean giants so far (Transfermarkt).

Fichajes reported in February that Spurs were keen on snapping up the central midfielder and they were facing competition from West Ham, Arsenal and Aston Villa for the 21-year-old.

According to Cesar Luis Merlo, the youngster has a release clause of €20m (£17m) in his contract with River Plate.

TyC Sports have now revealed that United have also turned their attention to Fernandez to bolster their options in midfield. The report adds that the midfielder looks bound for the Premier League this summer.

However, Spurs and Arsenal are named as the two clubs who are leading the race for Fernandez at the moment.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is always some risk involved in bringing players straight from South American football into the Premier League as one cannot be sure how they will adapt to the increased physicality and intensity.

However, Spurs probably do need reinforcements in central midfield as I expect Harry Winks to leave this summer.
